Established in 1891, the Nigeria Customs Service is responsible for collection of and accounting for revenue, promoting trade competitiveness through efficient processing of declarations and anti-smuggling activities.

In response to dynamic demands of complex and growing international trade, the Nigeria Customs Service has evolved to ensure prompt service delivery, while maintaining systematic and effective intervention controls to mitigate economic crime, money laundering, terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, violation of intellectual property rights, and dumping of toxic and hazardous substances.
